Commodity Exchange Tower, Winnipeg

Commodity Exchange Tower, Winnipeg

Located at the iconic Portage and Main intersection in downtown Winnipeg, the Commodity Exchange Tower-now officially known as 360 Main-is one of the city's architectural and commercial landmarks. Completed in 1979, this 117-meter, 31-storey high-rise was designed by the local firm Smith Carter. Initially, it was home to the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, which lent the tower its original name.

Though the building’s naming rights expired in 1990, it wasn’t formally renamed 360 Main until 2010. Locals continued to refer to it colloquially as the “Trizec Building” for many years. Today, 360 Main is the third tallest building in Winnipeg and remains a central hub of business activity.

The building offers a total of 597,755 square feet of leasable space, including 55,284 square feet dedicated to the Shops of Winnipeg Square, a retail area connected to the tower via the Winnipeg Square underground mall and the Winnipeg Skywalk system. A 954-stall parkade supports the complex.

Originally part of the Winnipeg Square development, the tower was home to trading firms and government offices tied to the commodity exchange. As those moved or merged, it transitioned to broader commercial use. By 2021, major tenants included BMO, CRA, CNR, Deloitte, EY, Microsoft, TD Bank, and the Solicitor General.

From a trading hub to a modern business center, the Commodity Exchange Tower continues to be a cornerstone of Winnipeg’s urban landscape.
