Complexo Acuático do Parque Simón Bolívar (Simon Bolivar Aquatic Complex), Bogota

The Simon Bolivar Aquatic Complex is a state-of-the-art sports facility in Bogota, dedicated to swimming and aquatic activities. Situated within the Simon Bolivar Metropolitan Park and adjacent to Parque de los Novios, the complex boasts a stunning design that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. Large windows provide breathtaking views of the lake and the city's eastern hills, creating a serene and inspiring environment for athletes and visitors alike.

Designed by the Bogota-based architectural firm Arias Serna Saravia and inaugurated in August 2005, the complex was a project spearheaded by the District Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD) under the Mayor's Office of Bogota. The site, once a waste landfill, was transformed into a modern facility with a total investment of 20,130 million Colombian pesos.

The complex features three main pools: a five-meter-deep diving pool, a 25x50 meter Olympic pool, and a training pool with half the Olympic pool's area. Additionally, it includes a children’s pool, making it accessible for various levels of swimmers. The stands accommodate up to 1,500 spectators, making it a venue capable of hosting large-scale events.

Complementing the pools are several amenities designed to enhance the user experience. These include athlete-specific changing rooms, saunas, a Turkish bath, a press room, a judges' room, and a gym. Public facilities include six restroom areas, an internet café, a cafeteria, and three commercial spaces available for private rental.

The complex is a testament to innovative urban development, integrating natural elements like water into its architectural vision. Its functional design and comprehensive facilities have made it a landmark for sports and recreation in Bogota.
