Delano Hotel, Miami

Delano Hotel, Miami

The Delano Hotel was originally built in 1947 by architect Robert Swartburg and was designed to be a simple, unadorned building with clean lines and minimalist features.

The Delano was initially a popular spot for the wealthy and famous, with guests like President Truman and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor staying there. However, over time, the hotel fell out of favor and became rundown and dilapidated.

In the mid-1990s, hotelier Ian Schrager purchased the property and decided to transform it into a high-end boutique hotel. He hired French designer Philippe Starck to lead the renovation, which was completed in 1995.

The new Delano Hotel was a striking departure from the original design, featuring whimsical, surrealist decor and a playful, eclectic style. Starck's vision included oversized furniture, an abundance of white, and a variety of quirky art pieces.

The renovation was a massive success, and the Delano quickly became one of Miami's hottest hotels. It was frequented by celebrities and socialites, who were drawn to the hotel's glamorous atmosphere and luxurious amenities.

In addition to its stylish rooms and high-end restaurants, the Delano also featured a stunning pool area, which was designed to evoke a Mediterranean-style beach club. The pool was lined with towering palm trees and featured plush daybeds, cabanas, and a bar.

Today, the Delano remains one of Miami's most popular hotels, attracting a mix of celebrities, fashionistas, and discerning travelers.
