Discovery Center of Idaho, Boise
The Discovery Center of Idaho is a science museum dedicated to interactive learning for visitors of all ages. Open since 1988, it is Idaho’s only science center of its kind, offering rotating exhibitions and in-house installations that introduce scientific concepts through direct engagement. Exhibits cover a range of disciplines, from physics and biology to engineering and astronomy, encouraging visitors to learn by doing.
Current highlights include Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body, a traveling exhibition based on the popular children’s book series. Through a mix of animatronics and games, visitors can explore bodily functions like burping, digestion, and sneezing in an accessible and educational format. Other ongoing exhibitions include Sun, Earth, Universe, created in collaboration with NASA to introduce space science and planetary exploration, and the Classics Collection, featuring redesigned past exhibits focused on motion, structure-building, and physical forces.
Permanent features include Matter Splatter, a large-format exhibit exploring the states of matter; Tinker the T-Rex, which offers a look at fossils and prehistoric life; and the Young Learners zone, designed for early childhood exploration.
