Egge Maritiem, Rotterdam

Egge Maritiem, Rotterdam

What to buy here: Nautical Decorative Oil Lamps.

Rotterdam is best known as one of the world’s biggest ports. Water and the port have always played an important role in the city. Nautical references reminiscent of the Maritime’s history can be seen around the city: old inner city harbors, historical warehouses and other characteristic paraphernalia of the time. Belonging to the last category are nautical decorative oil lamps: these are traditional oil fueled brass lamps, handmade to commercial ship standards manufactured since 1922 by Den Haan Rotterdam, a world famous company specialized in the fabrication of marine accessories. Many of the lamps are actual replicas of old models found on seagoing vessels a hundred years ago in Europe; therefore it’s guaranteed that these would make a distinctive and valuable gift among collectors and history lovers alike. Egge Maritiem is one of the largest marine-décor shops in The Netherlands and is coincidentally located close to the Rotterdam Maritime Museum, the Maas River and opposite to the Open Air Maritime Museum. Visiting the store and surroundings is a great way to experience a bit of the city’s history, so be sure to pack your camera and take some photos, they would make a nice anecdote to share when giving this special gift. Price: 100€ - 300€+
