Fish Market, Abu Dhabi

Fish Market, Abu Dhabi

The Fish Market in Abu Dhabi holds a significant place both culturally and commercially, representing the city's fishing heritage and its growth over the years. The Mina Fish Market, established in 1972, is the oldest and largest of its kind in the UAE, serving as a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi's fishing tradition for over four decades.

In line with international standards for community market development, a new fish market has been built near the original site in Mina Zayed, offering an improved shopping experience. While retaining elements of Abu Dhabi's fishing legacy in its design, the new market provides modern amenities for both vendors and customers. This redevelopment project aims to preserve the market's history while attracting both locals and tourists.

The Mina Fish Market is famous for its diverse selection of sea fish, such as Hamour, Kingfish, Arabian Safi, Sheri, Crab, Lobsters, Tiger Prawns, and Sharks. Customers can avail cleaning and preparation services for a small fee, making their shopping experience convenient. Additionally, several restaurants within the market offer cooking services for fresh purchases, catering to visitors seeking a quick meal.

The expansion and renovation of the fish market are part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate Mina Zayed, led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and Modon Properties. The new market facility boasts numerous stalls for fresh fish, dry fish, fruits, and vegetables, as well as commercial kiosks and restaurants. This revitalization project, initiated in November 2020 with the demolition of Mina Plaza, aims to modernize the area while preserving its historical significance, transforming Mina Zayed into a dynamic commercial and cultural hub.
