Fontana di Proserpina, Catania
Fontana di Proserpina is a big and very beautiful fountain in Rail Station Square. The fountain was completed in 1904 and is made from concrete. It depicts a scene from Greek and Roman mythology - a man with a frowning face, horses, and mermaids ripping the beautiful Persephone, daughter of Zeus. All these statues are placed in the centre of a large tank equipped with a powerful hydraulic system. At night it looks even more impressive due to the illumination of different colours.
