Fort Kid, Knoxville

Fort Kid, Knoxville

Fort Kid, situated in Downtown Knoxville, is an intricate urban playground that lies between the Victorian Houses and the Knoxville Museum of Art. It was initially constructed by volunteers under the guidance of the author and illustrator Beth Waters during the city's 1991 Bicentennial Celebration. Following years of preparation, the revamped Fort Kid Park was reintroduced to the public in March 2023.

With its new play surface that is accessible to all, fort tower and slide, poles for climbing and balancing, fully-accessible merry-go-round, play area for toddlers, newly constructed and fully-accessible pathway, as well as site grading and soil enhancements, Fort Kid has become a sought-after destination for school, church, and daycare groups.

Visitors can also take advantage of the nearby Knoxville Museum of Art (which is free to the public), as well as the Sunsphere and World's Fair Park, which are only a short distance away. World's Fair Park boasts a playground, water play fountains, and open space. Fort Kid is overseen by the Public Building Authority (PBA).
