Galleri Kim Antensen, Gothenburg
Galleri Kim Anstensen in Gothenburg was founded in the spring of 1992 by Kim Anstensen. The gallery opened its doors at Götabergsgatan 18, marking the beginning of a decades-long journey in the art world. Initially known as Galleri Plantage during its tenure on Plantagegatan, it was in 2000 that the gallery adopted its current name, Galleri Kim Anstensen, aligning more closely with its founder's vision and personal touch.
The gallery's location, Götabergsgatan, was once a vibrant hub with several galleries contributing to the city's artistic vibrancy. However, today, Galleri Kim Anstensen remains one of the only two galleries left on this street, symbolizing resilience and dedication to the art community. Despite the playful jests about being the youngest gallerist in town at nearly 60, Kim Anstensen embodies the spirit and passion for art that has sustained the gallery through changing times.
The artists who have exhibited at Galleri Kim Anstensen come from various parts of Sweden and abroad, including Denmark, Germany, France, and Spain. The gallery has showcased a rich tapestry of artistic techniques and expressions, from painting, watercolor, photography, digital art, and sculptures in different materials, to graphic prints. The stylistic range has been equally broad, featuring realism, abstract, and naive art. Central to Kim Anstensen's philosophy is allowing artists to tell their stories and make a lasting impact on visitors, a principle that has guided the gallery's curation and exhibitions.
In 2022, Galleri Kim Anstensen celebrated thirty years, a milestone commemorated with exhibitions featuring artists who have been part of the gallery's journey from the beginning, as well as newer talents.
