Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu

Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu (must see)

The Garden of Dreams, a tranquil oasis in downtown Kathmandu, is a public garden built in the early 20th century. It is more than 74,000 square feet, with a great deal of green space, ponds, and buildings. The Garden was designed, in a neo-classical style, by landscape architect Kishore Narshingh in 1920.

The Garden was originally built for Kaiser Sumsher Rana, the fifth prime minister of Nepal. After his death, the area fell into ruins and was neglected for decades. Today this national treasure has been restored by the Minister of Education with the support of the Austrian Development Aid and the Government of Nepal and takes its rightful place among the great landscape monuments of South Asia.

The Garden of Dreams has three pavilions and an outdoor amphitheater. It also has large ponds, urns, fountains, verandas, pergolas, birdhouses, and a sunken flower garden. The Garden is open from 9 AM to 10 PM daily. There is an entrance fee.
