Greensboro Children's Museum, Greensboro
The Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum in Greensboro is a vibrant hub of playful learning for kids and families. Originally opened in 1999 as the Greensboro Children’s Museum, this 37,000-square-foot space in downtown Greensboro was born from the vision of resident Jerry Hyman and the dedication of civic leader Cynthia Doyle.
Focused on hands-on, minds-on exploration, the museum offers more than 20 permanent exhibits under the theme “Our Town,” where kids can role-play and learn in miniaturized, interactive environments. From a child-sized grocery store to a construction zone, each space is designed to spark imagination and encourage curiosity through play.
Outdoors, the half-acre Edible Schoolyard, inspired by chef and food activist Alice Waters, invites children to get their hands dirty in an organic teaching garden and kitchen classroom. It’s home to everything from vegetables and herbs to chickens and composting worms-a living lesson in sustainability and nutrition.
The museum’s Outdoor Play Plaza, part of the “Reaching Greater Heights” expansion project, features towering Neptune XXL climbers and encourages physical challenge and exploration. Later additions like The Growing Place and an indoor water exhibit continue to bring exciting STEM and STEAM learning into the mix.
With a mission to support children’s growth and development through creation, outdoor discovery, and educational play, the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum is more than a play space-it’s a playground for the mind.
