Hangar Theatre, Ithaca

Hangar Theatre, Ithaca

Nestled in a repurposed airplane hangar from the old Ithaca Municipal Airport, the Hangar Theatre has been a cornerstone of Ithaca’s performing arts scene since 1975. Located on Taughannock Boulevard, this nonprofit regional theatre is home to the Hangar Theatre Company and serves as a year-round cultural hub for plays, musicals, concerts, and community events.

The Hangar is Ithaca’s flagship professional theatre, renowned for its high-caliber productions, including Broadway classics, original contemporary works, and children’s theatre. Each summer, the Mainstage season presents a lineup of exceptional plays and musicals, while its educational programs and youth initiatives help nurture the next generation of theatre artists. The theatre also collaborates with Ithaca College, offering students opportunities to audition, refine their craft, and engage with professional productions.

In celebration of its historic 50th season, the Hangar Theatre presents a dynamic trio of musical productions: Ride the Cyclone, a revival of Ragtime: The Musical (in partnership with Flint Repertory Theatre), and the world premiere of Todd vs. the Titanic, developed in collaboration with the Adirondack Theatre Festival.

Guided by its mission to enrich, enlighten, educate, and entertain, the Hangar Theatre continues to make a profound impact on the Finger Lakes region and beyond. With a rich history, a commitment to artistic excellence, and a dedication to community engagement, this beloved theatre remains a must-visit destination for theatre lovers in Ithaca.
