Harcourt House Arts Center, Edmonton
Harcourt House Artist Run Centre is a cornerstone of contemporary visual arts in Edmonton. Situated in the heart of downtown, this not-for-profit, artist-run, charitable organization stands as one of only four artist-run centers in the city. Since its establishment in the 1960s (in a building designed by Dennis & Freda O’Connor Architects), Harcourt House has become a dynamic space for artistic innovation, education, and community engagement.
With two dedicated gallery spaces-the Main Gallery for professional artists and the Incubator Gallery spotlighting emerging talents-Harcourt House delivers a wide range of exhibitions that explore diverse media and voices. These exhibitions frequently celebrate local talent while also featuring national and international perspectives, offering a fresh take on contemporary visual art.
Beyond exhibitions, Harcourt House supports Edmonton’s arts scene with 42 affordable studios-the largest artist community in the city. It also offers educational programs, including life drawing, workshops, and the Art Enrichment Program, which provides low- or no-cost classes to over 25 local low-income and special needs groups.
Artists such as Chris Cran, Liz Ingram, Peter Hide, Violet Owen, and Lyndal Osborne have shown their work here, cementing Harcourt House’s reputation as a serious venue for contemporary art. Whether you're exploring innovative installations or sharpening your own artistic skills, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre offers an inclusive and inspiring environment for both creators and the public alike.
