Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Wilmington

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Wilmington stands as a vibrant spiritual and cultural center for Orthodox Christians across a broad region, including all of Delaware, as well as parts of southern New Jersey, northeastern Maryland, and southeastern Pennsylvania. Established as a parish in 1934, the church has grown into a vital institution for the Greek American community, offering not only religious services but also a wide array of ministries, educational programs, and cultural events.

The origins of the community trace back to the late 19th century, when Greek immigrants began settling in Wilmington. By the 1920s, a more formalized community had emerged, eventually organizing under a Parish Council. In 1948, the cornerstone was laid for the current cathedral on North Broom Street. Designed in the Byzantine architectural style, the church features a prominent dome and a richly decorated interior with hand-painted iconography that underscores its religious and aesthetic significance.

In addition to the main sanctuary, the church complex includes a Greek Community Center that serves as a hub for cultural gatherings, educational initiatives, and youth programs. It also hosts the city’s annual Greek Festival, a popular event that showcases traditional food, music, and dance while strengthening community ties.
