Ibrahim Al Arrayed Poetry House, Manama

The Ibrahim Al Arrayed Poetry House in Manama is a cultural center dedicated to the art of poetry, which has a central role in the region's culture. It is named after the renowned Bahraini poet Ibrahim Al Arrayed, who was a leading figure in poetry and literature in Bahrain for over fifty years. The House of Poetry was opened on April 3, 2006, and has become a hub for poetry-related events, as well as a base for researchers and lovers of poetry.

The house was built in the mid-20th century in the Bahraini colonial style and is located on the Palace Road, leading to the Shaikh Hamad palace. Ibrahim Al Arrayed acquired the building and lived there until the late 1970s. The house now houses a vast collection of books and works by the foremost figures in the field of poetry in the region.

Ibrahim Al Arrayed, the namesake of the Poetry House, was born in Bombay, India, in 1908 to a Bahraini father and Iraqi mother. He grew up in India and returned to Bahrain in 1927, where he immersed himself in the works of prominent Arab poets. Al Arrayed started his career as an English language teacher before establishing his own school in 1931. He later worked as head of translation for PCL Oil Company from 1937 to 1967.

Al Arrayed was also heavily involved in politics and diplomacy, serving as Chairman of the Constituent Assembly in 1972 and later as Ambassador at large in 1974. He was recognized for his achievements in language, poetry, and diplomacy, receiving many honors and awards throughout his lifetime.
