Iglesia de San Pablo (St. Paul Church), Salamanca
Originally known as the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, this Baroque gem was constructed in the 17th century and consecrated on July 15, 1667. It was part of a larger convent belonging to the Discalced Trinitarians, located in what is now Columbus Square. Today, only the church façade remains of the original convent, while the cloister buildings house Salamanca's courts following various repurposings through history.
The church acquired the name Saint Paul when the parish bearing that name relocated here in 1840 after its previous seat was lost. For fifty years, it coexisted within Saint Stephen before settling permanently in this building. Since then, it has functioned as a diocesan parish and remains closely affiliated with the Congregation of Jesus Rescued and Our Lady of Sorrows-one of Salamanca’s oldest Holy Week brotherhoods.
The church’s façade features a sculpted relief of the Trinity surrounded by niches and Baroque ornamentation. Inside, the atmosphere remains refined and solemn, with a modest yet beautifully crafted Baroque altar. A particularly revered statue is the Rescued Jesus, to which the faithful-especially during Holy Week-offer profound devotion.

The small stone frog adorning the façade of the University of Salamanca keeps a watchful eye over visitors. Local legend says that if you find the frog among the carvings, fate will one day bring you back to the city.
