Istituto Scienze Religiose (Institute of Religious Sciences), Pisa
The Institute of Religious Sciences (Istituto Scienze Religiose) emerged from the collaborative efforts of Tuscan dioceses to advance research and training in theology. This initiative recognizes the importance of religious sciences and theology in understanding our diverse, multi-religious society. These disciplines are pivotal in addressing coexistence challenges and appreciating various religious traditions, especially Christianity.
On June 21, 2019, Pope Francis stressed the importance of theologians being compassionate and understanding the challenges faced by marginalized individuals, including victims of modern slavery, social issues, violence, wars, and poverty. He cautioned that theology lacking compassion and prayer may lose its ability to interpret reality from a Christian standpoint, comparing it to flavorless distilled water.
The Institute offers a three-year undergraduate program in religious sciences, including advanced philosophical studies, Catholic theology (biblical, systematic, and moral), and the history of Christianity. It also provides four specialized master's programs: Sacred Art, interreligious mediation, teaching Catholic religion in Italian schools, and pastoral work for highly trained pastoral workers.
The Institute is part of the Theological Faculty of Central Italy and aligns with the Bologna process. Its qualifications are recognized under Italian law, as per an agreement signed on 13 February 2019 by the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Congregation for Catholic Education.

Pisa Introduction Walking Tour
Pisa is known around the world for its Leaning Tower and as the birthplace of Galileo Galilei, often called the father of modern science. Those two associations alone would be enough to secure its place on the map. Yet the city's story stretches far beyond a tilted bell tower and one brilliant mind. It is a city shaped by the sea, by trade, and by centuries of quiet reinvention.
