Italia in Miniatura (Italy in Miniature), Rimini (must see)

Italia in Miniatura, located in Viserba, Rimini, is a unique miniature park and one of Italy's most cherished attractions. Opened on July 4, 1970, it stands as the fourth-oldest theme park in the country, drawing approximately 500,000 visitors annually. Spanning 85,000 square meters, the park showcases 273 meticulously crafted polyurethane models, representing not only Italian landmarks but also European sites and natural features such as rivers and volcanoes.

The park's highlights include a 1:5 scale Venice replica with gondola rides, interactive features like a driving school and Pinocchio train ride, and detailed miniatures of landmarks such as Pisa’s Piazza dei Miracoli and Milan Cathedral. Lush landscaping with 10,000 plants, a parrot aviary, hot air balloons, a log flume, and 18 model trains complete the experience.

The park was the brainchild of Ivo Rambaldi, a plumber inspired by a visit to Swissminiatur in Switzerland. He embarked on an ambitious project, traveling 27,000 kilometers and photographing over 6,200 monuments to ensure accuracy. The first models, such as the Tomb of Dante and Sant’Apollinare in Classe, were created with help from craftsmen and family members. The park initially opened with 49-61 models over a 20,000-square-meter area.

Italia in Miniatura underwent renovations between 2018 and 2021, adding attractions like Esperimenta, Pinocchio, and Pappamondo. The new entrance features fountains and a striking 10-meter-tall statue of a child. To mark its 50th anniversary in 2021, the park welcomed 1,000 residents free of charge.

The park boasts three restaurants, several snack kiosks, and a picnic area, making it ideal for families and groups. Visitors can enjoy evening events during summer, adding a magical touch to the experience.
