Lobanovsky Dynamo Stadium, Kiev

The Lobanovsky Dynamo Stadium is one of Ukraine’s most historic football venues. Built in 1934, it originally served as a multi-sport arena for the local Dynamo sports society.

Over the decades, it has hosted countless national and international matches, including early Soviet championships, and became the spiritual home of FC Dynamo Kyiv, one of Eastern Europe's most decorated football clubs.

In 2002, the stadium was renamed in honor of legendary coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi, whose leadership shaped Dynamo into a European powerhouse.

Despite wartime destruction and several reconstructions—including major renovations in the 1950s, 1980s, and 1990s—the stadium has preserved its iconic character.

Today, it is a football-only venue with a capacity of over 16,800 seats and a pitch that meets UEFA standards. While it is no longer Dynamo Kyiv’s primary stadium for large international matches, the Lobanovsky Stadium remains an important site for domestic games, training sessions, and smaller fixtures.

The stadium grounds also feature several monuments of interest. One honors Dynamo players who perished in World War II, including those linked to the legendary “Death Match” of 1942. Another, located near the main entrance, is a striking tribute to Lobanovskyi himself, depicted seated on a bench watching an eternal match.
