Marble Mountains. Thuy Son, Danang (must see)
Marble Mountains is a group of five limestone and marble hills located between Da Nang and Hoi An, each traditionally linked to one of the five elements. Among them, Thuy Son, or “Water Mountain,” is the largest and most visited. Rising from the coastal plain, it is known for its caves, temples, and viewpoints, all connected by a network of paths and stairways.
Begin your visit at the base of Thuy Son, where you can either take the elevator or climb the stone steps to reach the upper level. After arriving, follow the main path forward to enter a series of temple courtyards. As you walk, look for signs directing you toward the key sites. One of the first major stops is Tam Thai Pagoda, located along the central route, where shaded courtyards and traditional structures offer a quiet introduction to the mountain’s spiritual setting.
From here, continue along the marked paths toward the cave system, one of Thuy Son’s main highlights. Follow the signs to Huyen Khong Cave, a large chamber illuminated by natural light from above. Inside, you will see altars and statues set against the rock walls. Nearby passages lead to smaller caves and shrines, creating a layered experience as you move between open and enclosed spaces.
After exploring the caves, continue upward along the stairways toward the higher viewpoints. The paths lead to terraces where you can look out over the coastline, the surrounding countryside, and the city of Da Nang. The route eventually loops back toward the main paths, allowing you to descend at a comfortable pace. For visitors, Thuy Son offers a compact but varied journey, combining natural formations, religious sites, and scenic views in a single walk.
