Museo Diocesano Leonello Barsotti (Leonello Barsotti Diocesan Museum), Livorno
The Leonello Barsotti Diocesan Museum in Livorno is a significant hub for sacred art, inaugurated on December 22, 2008, with further expansions a year later. Situated in the former public chapel of the Doctors of the Church in the Girolamo Gavi Seminary, the museum's collection is deeply tied to the history and religious heritage of the Diocese of Livorno.
The museum showcases various ecclesiastical treasures that were once dispersed across the region. Among the notable artifacts is a 1692 monstrance crafted from silver and gilded metal, liturgical vestments from prominent manufacturers spanning the 17th to 19th centuries, a collection of votive offerings, and a portable tabernacle, a gift from Grand Duke Ferdinando I de Medici to the Livorno Cathedral in the early 17th century. The museum also houses two Giotto school panels from the Church of San Jacopo in Acquaviva, which were previously held at the National Museum of San Matteo in Pisa.
In addition to its artistic displays, the museum became a pioneer in Italy by integrating "bee tag" technology, allowing visitors to access additional information about the exhibits using their mobile phones.
