Museum van de Mensheid (Museum of Humanity), Zaandam

The Museum of Humanity was founded in 2001, inspired by photographer Ruben Timman's dream of a crumbling, shadowy museum-a metaphor for the current state of our world and humanity. This vision became the foundation for capturing and showcasing the dignity of people across the globe. Its collection now boasts over 8,000 portraits, gathered from visits to twenty countries across five continents.

Located in a former ammunition factory, just a 30-minute drive from Amsterdam’s city center, the museum invites you to see humans as true masterpieces through powerful and evocative photography. A visit to the Museum of Humanity encourages a deeper understanding of others and reminds that all people share the same basic needs.
