Zaantheater (Zaan Theater), Zaandam

The Zaan Theater serves as the cultural hub for Zaanstad and its surroundings, offering a wide and diverse program. Whether you're into cabaret, opera, dance, musicals, concerts, plays, international shows, or youth performances, there's something for everyone in this modern building along the Zaan River.

The Zaan Theater it's the city's living room, welcoming all audiences through various social initiatives. Its program invites Zaan residents who might not often have the chance to attend shows. For those who prefer daytime outings, there are the "Theatre on Tuesday Afternoon" series. The theatre hosts free festivals for children and young people.

Each week, the stage brings beautiful and moving stories to life, but the magic doesn't stop there. The Zaantheater, as the city’s living room, is a place where life happens, and where there's life, there are stories-both onstage and off.

Designed by three local architects-Paul Carree, Wim Wester, and Jan Zijlstra-the Zaantheater is supported by a dedicated team of around 60 volunteers who contribute to various activities, keeping the theater vibrant and welcoming.
