Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, Niagara Falls
Nestled just 10 minutes north of Niagara Falls along the scenic Niagara Parkway, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens offer 99 acres (40 hectares) of award-winning landscapes, lush gardens, and horticultural excellence. Since opening in 1936, the gardens have welcomed visitors into a serene, colorful world where ornamental plants are not only admired-but also studied and cared for by future horticulture professionals.
This natural showcase is maintained year-round by students of the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, a unique three-year program combining academic studies with hands-on training. These dedicated students live and learn on-site, gaining experience in every aspect of garden maintenance-from seasonal plantings and display beds to winter greenhouse work and tree pruning. Their classroom? The Botanical Gardens themselves, along with the nearby Butterfly Conservatory and Niagara Parks Greenhouses.
Guests can explore a variety of specialty gardens, including the formal parterre, vibrant herb and vegetable gardens, and the renowned rose garden, home to more than 2,400 rose bushes. Over 80,000 annuals and 150 student-designed hanging baskets brighten the grounds each year, creating new visuals with every season. In spring, tulips and daffodils take the stage; in summer, roses and peonies bloom in full force; autumn bursts with chrysanthemums and fiery foliage; and in winter, evergreens lend structure and quiet charm.
Whether you're a garden lover, an aspiring horticulturist, or just seeking a tranquil escape, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens is a must-visit destination on the Niagara Garden Trail. Open daily year-round from dawn to dusk, admission is free-just don’t forget some coins for the metered parking.
