Noyes Mansion, Napa
The Noyes Mansion, an architectural gem in Napa, was built in 1903 by Frank Noyes, a prominent lumber dealer. Designed by local architect William H. Corlett, the mansion exemplifies the early 20th-century shingle style, a departure from the more ornate Queen Anne designs of the late 19th century. While shingle architecture varied between regions, the Noyes Mansion aligns with the East Coast model, featuring Colonial Revival elements such as a symmetrical facade, an entrance portico, and classical details.
Spanning approximately 6,000 square feet over two floors, the home retains many of its original design features, including wide-trimmed doors and windows, a grand staircase with an oak balustrade, and a floral stained glass skylight. The estate also boasts a large carriage house and was once bordered by a horse pasture.
Noyes resided here until 1956, after which the mansion served various roles, including office space for the Napa Valley Unified School District and later a mix of commercial enterprises. In 2005, Wine Spectator acquired the property and undertook a restoration, preserving its historical integrity. Recognized for its architectural and historical significance, the Noyes Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
Set back from the street, the mansion remains a striking example of Napa’s early 20th-century residential elegance, blending shingle style with the refined grace of Colonial Revival design.
