Oomingmak Musk Ox Producers' Co-operative, Anchorage

If you seek a truly unique and valuable gift, visit Oomingmak Musk Ox Producers' Co-operative. The store sells clothes and accessories made of quviut – soft musk ox wool. This rare and expensive material is much softer, lighter and warmer than sheep's wool and does not shrink in hot water. In the store you can find scarves, hats, tunics and headbands all hand-knitted by native Alaskan women from distant villages and sent to Anchorage by mail. The knitted motifs are unique and specific to the area in which they were made.
