Parcul Rozelor (Roses Park), Timisoara
Roses Park, established in 1891 during the Agro-Industrial Exhibition in Southern Hungary, stands as a testament to history and horticulture. Originally named after Emperor Franz Joseph, the park underwent a transformation post-World War I, now known as Rosarium. Over the years, the park has seen significant landscaping endeavors, notably in 1929 when it was redesigned in the English style by Árpád Mühle. The meticulous planning led to the creation of wide alleys, wooden canopies, and round flower beds, which became home to over 1,200 species and varieties of roses by 1934.
Despite challenges such as the destruction of the summer theater during World War II, the park persevered, becoming a cultural hub in the heart of the city. Attempts to establish a botanical garden by academician Alexandru Borza post-war were unsuccessful, but the park continued to evolve.
In 2012, the park underwent its latest reorganization, adding thousands of roses, trees, and shrubs, along with rebuilding pergolas, benches, and vases. Today, with an area of over 37,000 square meters, Roses Park offers a blend of classic and landscape styles. Its rectangular layout features distinct areas of attraction, with curved lines dominating the design.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Roses Park serves as a venue for various cultural events, including the Festival of Hearts, the Festival of Ethnic Minorities, and the Festival of Artisanal Gastronomy, making it a cherished gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
