Pilgrim Congregational Church, Worcester

Pilgrim Congregational Church, Worcester

The Sunday School of Pilgrim Congregational Church started in 1883 with eleven children and two teachers. The number grew rapidly and soon the original chapel became too small. The new house of the Pilgrim Congregational Church was erected in 1887 on Main Street in Worcester and was added to the list of National Historic Places a century later. The church building was designed by the well-known local architect Stephen C. Earle in a Romanesque style. The buildings windows and other details are trimmed in sandstone, and a tower with projecting rounded corners rises from one corner. It features an open belfry with round-arch openings and is capped by a steeply pitched roof, with decorative finials at the corners. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
