Plaza Dolores Medio (Dolores Medio Square), Oviedo

Dolores Medio Square is dedicated to the Oviedo-born novelist Dolores Medio, celebrated for portraying daily life in 20th-century Spain. Located in the La Argañosa neighborhood, it serves as a communal gathering place where residents meet and socialize. At its center stands a bronze bust of the author.

The bust-cast in 2003-was created by sculptor Anselmo Iglesias Poli, enlarging an earlier model by J. Morrás. Its placement here coincided with the city’s wider program of public art, which has seeded Oviedo with monuments and contemporary pieces over recent decades.

Sharing the square is Asturcón sculpture, a bronze of the emblematic Asturian pony by Félix Alonso Arena, also from 2003. For visitors, Dolores Medio Square reads as a modern, versatile space: open terraces, play areas, and fitness elements support daily use, while the artworks offer quick cultural context.
