Praia dos Alemaes (Alemaes Beach), Albufeira

Praia dos Alemaes (Alemaes Beach), Albufeira

Alemaes Beach, or Germans' Beach, is a serene stretch of golden sand on the Atlantic coast of Albufeira, Portugal. Located just east of the old town and west of Praia do Inatel, this Blue Flag beach marks the quieter end of Albufeira’s central 2-kilometer shoreline. Its name recalls a bygone era when a German-owned fish canning factory operated nearby-later converted into a hotel. Today, the beach retains its appeal among families and international visitors, particularly those looking to avoid the more crowded hotspots to the west.

Framed by gently eroded low cliffs and patches of Mediterranean greenery, the beach spans roughly 500 meters and is backed by a mix of hotels, villas, and holiday apartments. Access points thread through these developments, with the main entrance via Rua Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro in the Forte de São João neighborhood. A boardwalk extends in both directions from the Hotel Monica Isabel Beach Club, making strolls and beach access more convenient, especially in the summer heat when the sand becomes scorching.

Alemaes Beach offers a balance of amenities and calm surroundings. Lifeguards are on duty during the bathing season, and visitors can rent loungers, parasols, and pedal boats, and sometimes enjoy an inflatable water park for children. Two beachfront restaurants serve drinks and meals, and there are showers, toilets, and wheelchair access. Despite its facilities, the beach preserves a natural character, especially toward the eastern end where cliffs soften into organic forms and vegetation grows denser.

Ideal for sunbathing, casual swims, and longer seaside walks, this beach offers a more relaxed alternative to Albufeira’s livelier shores. You can even reach Praia do Inatel by walking over the cliffs or following the coast further to explore smaller, lesser-known coves. With its spacious sands, mellow surf, and low-key vibe, Alemaes Beach remains a favorite among returning visitors and those seeking a slower pace along the Algarve coast.
