Puppenkönig (Doll King), Bonn
The Doll King is a historic toy store that has been transformed into an immersive Playmobil-themed Experience World. Originally founded in the early 20th century, this long-loved three-story store with its stone façade charmed generations with its elaborate Christmas model train and diverse toy collection. Though the original family-run store closed in 2019 after more than a century, it was reborn in March 2023 as a Playmobil-themed venue.
The place combines a full Playmobil retail experience with interactive themed play zones designed around Adventure, Dinosaur, Space, Castle, and more. Life-size Playmobil figures greet visitors at the entrance, while imaginative play stations like digital firefighting scenarios and build-your-own knights invite engagement from kids and adults alike. A dedicated "Doll Kitchen" café provides a cozy rest spot for parents as children roam the play areas.
Entry is ticketed and often includes on-site entertainment like seasonal events, shows, and craft workshops. Besides the play environment, the adjoining shop offers the full range of Playmobil sets-many of which are exclusive to The Doll King-and themed souvenirs. Recognized for its innovative concept, The Doll King won the 2024 “Stores of the Year” award in Germany’s concept store category.
