Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Bloomington
Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1864. Initially founded with the purchase of a church building from a Methodist congregation, the church quickly became a focal point for the Catholic community in the area. Over the years, the congregation's growth necessitated several relocations and expansions to accommodate its members.
In 1878, a new church building was constructed on the corner of 4th Street and Madison Street, providing a larger and safer space for worship. This location served the congregation for over four decades until 1922 when the church moved to a new property on East 3rd Street and Dunn Street, where a school was also established. After 30 years at this location, the church relocated once again in 1952 to its current site at the intersection of East 3rd Street and High Street.
Since then, Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has continued to be a cornerstone of the Bloomington community, providing spiritual guidance, education, and a sense of community for its parishioners. The addition of a school in 1957, followed by an expansion in 1996, further solidified the church's commitment to serving the needs of its members and the broader community. The annual 3rd and High Festival, hosted by the church and school, stands as a testament to the vibrant and inclusive spirit of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
