The Sophienhof is a shopping center in Kiel that opened in 1988. The total area of the Sophienhof is almost 38,000 m². If you add the areas of the Quer-Passage, which is directly connected to the Sophienhof, the Holstentörn and the Karstadt area, the covered sales area is almost 70,000 m². Calculated this way, this shopping area is the largest covered shopping center in northern Germany. Coming from Holstenstrasse, you can take escalators at the end of Holstenplatz to the first floor of the Karstadt department store. You can walk under cover through the Holstentörn between Karstadt (formerly Hertie) to the Sophienhof shopping center, from which the Quer-Passage shopping area branches off. Coming directly from the central bus stop, you enter Sophienhof via its main entrance from Sophienblatt (main train station). In the entrance area there is a market hall with fruit and vegetable stalls. Towards the Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse exit there is a food court over two floors (a replica of a street with shops and small restaurants, lined up next to each other in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere). The food court offers a wide selection of fish and ice cream, from Asian to Italian food, as well as cafés. In total there is around 75,000 m² of covered space. In addition to around 120 shops, Sophienhof is home to numerous restaurants, doctors and pharmacies, as well as a fitness studio. The Sophienhof complex also includes various offices and 84 apartments. The Sophienhof itself is home to numerous retail chains, such as the consumer electronics chain MediMax, numerous clothing chains such as H&M, and numerous other shops for clothing and shoes, books, office supplies, accessories and jewelry. Numerous service providers can also be found in the Sophienhof. Regular and irregular events take place in the Sophienhof, from piano concerts and a Christmas market to party events such as “Kiel’s Longest Night”, which is always held on the night of the time change on the last Saturday in October. The Sophienhof also offers local clubs and initiatives access to an audience. Directly in the Sophienhof, at the corner of Herzog-Friedrich-Straße and Sophienblatt (Herzog-Friedrich-Straße 21), there is a medical center in which many specialists - from allergists to dentists - practice. One of the 84 apartments located in the Sophienhof played a leading role on March 20, 2005 in the episode Schattenhochzeit (Shadow Wedding), the crime series Tatort, which revolved around Inspector Borowski.
In the Sophienhof you will find the full range of shopping options in 120 shops: Immerse yourself in the world of fashion, style and enjoyment! Be inspired by international variety and first-class service. The high-quality, cutting-edge fashion world impresses with its diverse brand stores and shops. Another attraction in the Sophienhof is the food court. With this large selection, there is something for every taste. With around 350 seats, the food court invites you to linger after a shopping spree. The market hall on the ground floor also offers visitors a large selection of food, snacks and shopping opportunities. A visit that is well worth it. ***PH***
