St. Atanassiy Orthodox Church, Varna

Saint Athanasius Church, also named Saint Atanassiy in local signs and maps, stands on the site of another church burned down in 1836. Just two years later, the new structure was completed-built as the metropolitan seat of Varna. Today, it is active in Orthodox worship-and often chosen for ceremonies like weddings and baptisms. Its women's choir and devout clergy enhance the experience, filling the interior with melodic reverence.

Set amidst the remains of the ancient Roman Thermal Baths, Saint Athanasius reflects Orthodox beauty, surrounded by tranquil garden to the ornate iconostasis, detailed frescoes, and intricately carved bishop's throne. It doesn’t feature towering domes, but instead maintains a humble, approachable profile suited to its historic setting beneath the city’s Roman remnants.
