St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Toledo

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Toledo

Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church first took shape in 1889, when a small group of Episcopalians in Toledo gathered to establish a new congregation. Not long after, they enlisted the architectural firm Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson to design their church in the perpendicular Gothic style, with its stone façade and pointed arches. Later additions were the choir, apse, and parish house.

Visitors today are often drawn to Saint Mark’s distinctive interior, where you’ll find two labyrinths designed for meditative walking. The Community Labyrinth, added in 2001, offers a peaceful seven-circuit path open to all, while the “CrossRoads” labyrinth occupies a unique spot on the third floor. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the Skinner organ, an impressive instrument featuring three manuals and nearly 1,900 pipes.

Beyond its architectural interest, the church provided kindergarten education in the 1920s to ongoing programs supporting intellectual, spiritual, and social well-being.
