The Stare Zoo is a unique and historic zoological garden that holds the distinction of being the oldest operating zoo in the country. Despite its relatively small size, the Old Zoo offers a delightful array of animal species and family-friendly attractions.

The Old Zoo's historical roots are quite fascinating. In the late 19th century, a group of members from a local bowling club came up with a unique idea to celebrate their club president's birthday. Their gift to him included a diverse collection of animals, ranging from a pig and a ram to a squirrel, peacock, duck, a trained bear, and even a monkey. These gifted animals served as the original inhabitants of the site, setting the stage for the creation of the zoo.

While the Stare Zoo may be smaller in size compared to some larger zoos, it boasts a diverse collection of animals that appeal to visitors of all ages. Visitors can observe various exotic species such as lemurs, black swans, rheas, and an array of farm animals, including goats, donkeys, sheep, and ponies that are even available for rides. Additionally, the zoo houses reptiles, amphibians, and fish, adding to the richness of its wildlife exhibits.

One of the notable highlights of the Old Zoo is the Pavilion of Poikilotherms, where visitors can marvel at the impressive Komodo dragon, the largest reptile in the world. This magnificent creature is a rare and captivating sight within the zoo.
