Ten Broeck Mansion, Albany (must see)

The Broeck Mansion was built in 1797 by Ten Broeck, a bright political figure in New York state. Originally built in the Federal-style, the mansion was called "Prospect". Thirty years later it was renovated in the Greek-revival style. When the mansion changed owners to the Olcott family, new features and annexes were added. Today the mansion reflects details of Greek Revival, Italianate, Second Empire and Victorian styles.

From 1848 to 1948, the house belonged to the latter family members, after that passing to the Albany County Historical Association along with all of the original belongings, furniture, memorabilia and various decoration, in order to preserve the living memory of the past. The mansion also has a magnificently kept garden. In the mansion is one of the oldest private wine cellars in the nation. Nowadays it is open as a historic house museum with decorations and furnishings from the mid 19th century.
