The Whisky Shop, Fort William

The Whisky Shop is a specialist retailer focused on Scotch whisky, while also selling world whiskies and other spirits. The brand began in 1992, with its first branch opening in Edinburgh’s Waverley Mall. Inside, bottles are arranged by region and style, with clear labels and short notes that explain age, cask type, and flavour in a simple way.

Most of the range is whisky, including single malts, blends, and independent bottlings. The shelves usually combine well-known distilleries with smaller producers, as well as world whiskies such as Japanese, Irish, American, and English bottles. Other spirits like gin, rum, vodka, and liqueurs are also stocked, along with gift packs and small bottles that are easy for travellers to carry.

Staff are trained to explain whisky in plain language, following the brand idea of “unlocking the mystery of whisky.” They can suggest bottles based on what you already like, whether that’s smooth and light or smoky and bold. Sampling is often available, especially at quiet times or for members, so you may be able to try a dram before you decide.
