Torre dei Caduti (Tower of the Fallen), Bergamo
The Tower of the Fallen in Bergamo is a significant monument that was constructed as part of a larger project to revitalize the city's lower section after the Napoleonic occupation. Designed by Marcello Piacentini, the tower was built from 1922 onwards in an area historically known as Prato di Sant'Alessandro.
It features a 45-meter height and is made of Bagnatica sandstone, adorned with decorative elements and commemorative features. Notable aspects include the Zandobbio marble clock with allegorical representations of the winds, a bronze statue of Italy holding Victory and a sword, and bas-reliefs of Admiral Paolo Thaon di Revel and General Armando Diaz.
Inside, the tower displays the names of fallen soldiers on lower floors and panels depicting the city's development on upper floors. As a symbol of unity and nationalism, the tower pays tribute to the fallen while promoting a sense of national identity.

Bergamo Introduction Walking Tour
The first thing you notice about Bergamo is topography. Situated at the foothills of the Italian Alps, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, Bergamo has been divided into two parts, the Upper Town and the Lower Town (Città Alta and Città Bassa), since the 15th century. The flat Lower Town rises steeply to the Upper Town, perched on a picturesque hill's crest.
