Tyrol Panorama Museum, Innsbruck

The Tirol Panorama, situated in Innsbruck, is a significant museum known for housing the Innsbruck Giant Panorama Painting. This painting, which was relocated to the museum in September 2010, covers an impressive 1,000 square meters and portrays the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809.

In addition to the Giant Panoramic Painting, the museum features a permanent exhibition named the “Tyrolean Stage”, which explores themes such as religion, nature, politics, and human experiences through various exhibits. Notably, the museum is connected underground to the Kaiserjäger Museum, creating a sort of "museum within the museum."

The exhibition space is divided into four thematic areas. "Nature" is showcased with a 40-meter-long display featuring items like a cable car gondola and stuffed animals. "Politics" features significant artifacts such as the horse's head from the "Aluminum Duce" monument in Bolzano and Emperor Maximilian I's 1511 ‘’Landlibell’’. Interactive displays depict different "Tyrolean types" and notable figures like former provincial governor Eduard Wallnöfer.

"Religion" exhibits are housed in large glass showcases near the main entrance foyer, including a baroque pulpit and fresco designs from Saint Theresa’s Church by Max Weiler. One of Weiler's murals, depicting “Archduke Ferdinand II and Philippine Welser at Schloss Ambras“, was relocated to the Tyrol Panorama in 2011, where it now hangs in the museum's restaurant. This impressive painting, weighing a tonne and comprising 24 individual sections, was originally displayed in the dining room of the old Hotel Tyrol in Innsbruck from 1953 to 2000.
