Waldau Wildlife Park, Bonn

Waldau Wildlife Park, Bonn

The Waldau Wildlife Park marks the northern edge of Bonn’s Kottenforst forest, spanning about 160 hectares of mixed woodland and elevated at around 170 m. Established as a wildlife enclosure in 1961 and complemented by the House of Nature in 1989, it seamlessly blends conservation, education, and recreation amid ancient beech, oak, and pine trees-some over 250 years old.

While exploring the park, visitors can follow themed trails such as the “Biodiversity Path,” which features informational stops highlighting regional plants and animals. The site also includes a spacious adventure playground, barefoot walking paths, and well-maintained, accessible routes suitable for all ages. The House of Nature functions as both a museum and learning center, offering exhibits on the local environment, including its geology, ecosystems, and native species.

The park’s highlight, the Wildlife Enclosure, invites you to observe native animals in near-natural settings. You’ll likely spot wild boar, red deer, and fallow deer grazing or foraging across open enclosures-often visible as you walk through the trails. Wooded areas are home to tawny owls, badgers, Bechstein’s bats, toads, and grass snakes, offering glimpses of biodiversity as you wander through the forest.
