Palermo is the capital of Sicily, which is an island that is part of the Southern region of Italy. Because of its history, the city is an interesting display of different architectural styles – in Arab-Norman, Baroque and neo-classical. Then there is a bustling and somewhat chaotic side in the markets and rustic areas. And in contrast, there are the better-maintained and spruced-up parks, squares and palaces. Palermo has really exceeded my expectations especially considering that it was only meant to be a brief stopover. Teatro Massimo, Palermo Cathedral and the Church of Jesus of Casa Professa are beautiful sights not to be missed when spending 24 hours in Palermo. Certainly not a place to miss if you are in Sicily!
