Heart of the Ancient Roman Empire: Day 3 Itinerary, Rome, Italy

The final day of this 3-day Rome itinerary brings you once again to Vatican City, this time to the St Peter’s Square and St Peter’s Basilica. Then do a self-guided tour into the historical centre from Castel Sant’Angelo, to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and finally to the Spanish Steps.

1. It is most important to note that there is no skip-the-line ticket for St Peter’s Basilica. The queue is for the security checks and it is not possible to skip this line.

2. The Papal’s Audience (when the Pope addresses the public at St Peter’s Square) is held on Wednesday mornings. During this time, the basilica will be closed until 12.30pm. So do not plan to visit St Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday mornings unless you wish to attend the Papal’s Audience.

3. If you’d like to be in attendance at the Papal’s Audience normally held on Wednesday mornings, you will need to book your free tickets in advance.

4. Starting from 2 February 2026, you need to pay €2 to access the lower basin level closest to the Trevi Fountain. Residents as well as children under the age of 5 are exempt from this. ...... (follow the instructions below for accessing the rest of this article).
