Ascona is a charming lakeside town in the south of Switzerland with gorgeous panoramic views and chill Mediterranean-style vibes. It’s a great destination for a chill vacation if you don’t mind sleepy towns without a whole lot to do. But nothing beats its aesthetic and relaxed atmosphere whether you’re visiting for a day or a week.

The main city center area is called Borgo. Among the colorful winding alleys in the Borgo, you’ll find many boutiques and art galleries. One of the small museums in city center is the Municipal Museum of Modern Art Ascona, which houses a very small rotating collection of contemporary works. If you’re also planning to visit the Museo Castello San Materno, a bigger art museum that is housed in the ancient castle whose name it bears, you can buy a combined ticket for both. But Ascona has plenty of art and sculptures to enjoy as you walk around.

One of the most striking buildings in the Ascona Old Town is the 13th century Church of Saints Peter and Paul, which stands out for its raw stone façade among the brightly painted buildings that surround it.
