A travel guide with great tips for travelling to Umeå from Östersund and where to shop for food to save money. I’m also throwing in a couple of Swedish quirks you may encounter.

Slowly making our way north in Sweden from Stockholm. Trains are a great way to travel and to save money.

Only three or four trains make the journey from Östersund Central station to Umeå Central Station each day.

You can buy tickets at the train station’s Pressbyrån, as the station is unmanned and does not have a ticket machine.

Taking the 9:28 am comfortable train (non-reserved seat) from Östersund, the train isn’t too busy this morning.

Typically, Swedish trains offer free Wi-Fi, a fold-out table you can comfortably rest a laptop on, and a couple of charging outlets. Although today, the 4-seater only has a small window table, barely enough to fit a laptop.
