Artisans Gallery, Santa Cruz

Artisans Gallery, located in the heart of Santa Cruz, is a vibrant celebration of American craftsmanship, with a special focus on local artists. This establishment, with its rich history and deep community roots, embodies its motto “Dedicated to the Creative Spirit” by offering an extensive range of American-made items. The gallery's diverse inventory includes wall art, jewelry, glass, ceramics, metalwork, pottery, woodworking, cards, candles, children's items, bath products, and more.

Founded in 1976 as an artists' cooperative, Artisans Gallery has become a beloved fixture in Santa Cruz. The gallery's resilience was tested during the devastating 7.1 earthquake on October 17, 1989, causing significant destruction downtown. Despite the economic and physical challenges, John and Juleen Lisher committed local community members, and revitalized the gallery, transforming it into a broader platform for North American artists while maintaining its local essence.

Currently owned by Linnaea Holgers James, Artisans Gallery continues its tradition of showcasing local art and American-made objects. Linnaea has upheld the gallery’s commitment to the arts by providing space for monthly rotating art shows, ensuring that the gallery remains a dynamic and engaging venue for artists and patrons.

In addition to running Artisans Gallery, Linnaea and her husband Peter manage Agency, a nearby store that complements the gallery's offerings. The agency, housed in the former Santa Cruz Travel building, infuses creative elements of work and travel, featuring contemporary home goods and lifestyle accessories.
