Artist’s Co-op Gallery, Reno

Artist’s Co-op Gallery, Reno

Housed in a restored 1906 brick building, the Artist’s Co-op Gallery of Reno is the longest continuously operating cooperative gallery in Nevada. Originally a French laundry, the space was transformed by a group of local artists in 1966, becoming a nonprofit, artist-run venue that continues to serve as a creative cornerstone near downtown Reno. Its founding members renovated the historic space themselves, laying the groundwork for a gallery focused entirely on the work and vision of the artists who run it.

The gallery maintains permanent wall space for roughly 20 local artists working in oil, watercolor, pastel, pencil, photography, and mixed media. Many of them draw inspiration from the surrounding landscapes of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, resulting in original pieces that reflect a strong regional identity. In addition to its core collection, the gallery hosts monthly feature exhibits and rotating displays that spotlight ceramics, hand-forged jewelry, woodwork, beaded sculptures, and other handcrafted works. Public receptions are held for these exhibitions, offering visitors a chance to meet the artists behind the work.

Unlike typical retail spaces, the Artist’s Co-op exclusively offers one-of-a-kind pieces, emphasizing originality and a direct connection between creator and buyer. For those seeking something specific, the gallery also facilitates commissioned works through one-on-one collaborations with its member artists. Whether you're browsing fine art, handmade gifts, or regionally inspired creations, the Artist’s Co-op Gallery offers a thoughtfully curated experience that celebrates artistic craftsmanship in a welcoming, community-focused setting.

Throughout its nearly 150-year-long history, Reno has reinvented itself several times. In the 19th century, cattle barons, mine speculators, and bank presidents favored this once arid little town as a place of residence. Building their mansions with extensive gardens on the high bluff above the Truckee River, they eventually transformed it into what author Walter Van Tilburg Clark later described...  view more
