Blackpool Heritage Trams (North Pier Stop), Blackpool
The Blackpool Heritage Trams at the North Pier stop offers a nostalgic ride through one of the world’s oldest electric tramways, dating back to 1885. Operated by Blackpool Transport, this is the UK’s last surviving first-generation tramway still in regular use-excluding museum lines-and one of the few places globally where you can still spot double-decker trams rolling along the tracks.
Until December 2024, the Heritage Tram service allowed visitors to hop aboard a fleet of lovingly restored vintage vehicles, mainly preserved from Blackpool’s tram history and a few sourced from elsewhere. These traditional trams, distinct from the modern Bombardier Flexity 2 fleet that now serves most of the line, were typically in operation on weekends, select weekdays, and Bank Holidays. They were also a beloved feature of the annual Blackpool Illuminations.
Heritage Tram Tours usually ran between Pleasure Beach and North Pier, stopping only at designated 'Heritage Tram Tours' stops, marked by green circular signs. While the heritage service is currently suspended, the North Pier stop remains a symbolic and central location-reminding visitors of the town’s rich transportation history and its iconic seafront journeys.

Blackpool Introduction Walking Tour
Between the Ribble and Wyre rivers on the west coast of England was a strip of sandy beach seven miles long. It was a pleasant place, where streams would run through peat bogs before emptying into the sea, turning the water dark. People called the place "Black Pool." Since early days, folks sought the benefits of fresh sea air and water.
