Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery, Varna

The Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery occupies about 1,000 m² of exhibition space divided into eight halls, presenting a rich collection of Bulgarian art from the early 20th century to the present. It holds the largest body of works by Boris Georgiev, the distinguished Varna-born artist after whom the museum was officially named in 1999.

Alongside his pieces, visitors will find significant works by leading Bulgarian masters such as Vladimir Dimitrov, Ivan Milev, Tsanko Lavrenov, and many others. The gallery is housed in a remarkable neo-Gothic structure originally built in the 1880s as a boys’ high school. Converted into an art gallery in 1944, the building’s design, inspired by Northern European Brick Gothic style, makes it one of the standout architectural landmarks in Varna.

Beyond its visual art, the gallery pulses with cultural life. The third floor hosts concerts, theatrical performances, readings, and festival events-most notably as part of the Varna Summer International Music Festival. Meanwhile, the second floor presents a selection of portrait masterpieces from the Dutch Golden Age.
