Braulio Carrillo National Park is a magnificent protected area located in the central region of Costa Rica, just northeast of San Jose, the capital city. The park, established in 1978, spans an area of approximately 117,971 acres and boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna species. It was named in honor of Braulio Carrillo Colina, the third Head of State of Costa Rica.

The park is divided into two sections: the Caribbean and the Pacific sections, with the Caribbean section being the larger of the two. The park's topography is characterized by steep mountains, deep valleys, and numerous rivers and waterfalls. It has a maximum elevation of 9,534 feet at the summit of Cerro Chirripó, the highest peak in Costa Rica.

Braulio Carrillo National Park is home to an impressive range of biodiversity, including over 500 bird species, 150 mammal species, and 6,000 plant species. Among the park's most notable animals are the jaguar, puma, tapir, and various species of monkeys. The park is also home to many endangered species, such as the Harpy Eagle and the Great Green Macaw.
